Paros is not just about beaches and picturesque alleys. From the stunning trails of the Paros Environmental Park to the historic Byzantine Trail (Lefkes – Prodromos), the island offers unique hiking experiences.

However, a misstep on a rocky path or a slippery paved alley is all it takes to cause an ankle sprain.

If this happens while enjoying your walk, stay calm and follow these steps:

1. First Aid on the Trail

  • Stop immediately: Do not force your foot to continue. Putting weight on an injured joint can worsen the injury.
  • Ask for help: If you are in a difficult spot, contact your group or call for help to move without putting weight on your foot.
  • Loosen your footwear: Slightly untie your boots or sneakers so the area isn't squeezed if swelling begins, but do not remove them completely until you reach a safe spot.

2. The R.I.C.E. Rule (At your accommodation)

Once you return, immediately apply the R.I.C.E. method:

  • R (Rest): Completely avoid standing and walking.
  • I (Ice): Apply an ice pack (wrapped in a towel) for 15–20 minutes, every 2–3 hours.
  • C (Compression): Wrap the ankle with an elastic bandage (not too tightly) to limit swelling.
  • E (Elevation): Lie down and place your foot on pillows, above heart level.

3. When should you see an Orthopedist?

A seemingly "mild" sprain can sometimes hide a ligament tear or even a hairline fracture. Don't leave it to chance, especially if you want to save the rest of your vacation.

Visit the Orthopedic Clinic at Mediterraneo First Care Paros immediately if:

  • You are completely unable to put weight on your foot.
  • There is severe swelling, bruising (ecchymosis), or deformity in the joint.
  • The pain is sharp and does not subside with rest.

4. Imaging & Diagnostics: Accurate diagnosis without delays

For an accurate evaluation of the injury (ruling out a fracture or assessing the severity of ligament damage), our clinical examination is backed by a state-of-the-art Imaging Department.

This allows us to perform any necessary X-ray or ultrasound scan on-site, providing an accurate, instant diagnosis and immediate treatment (immobilization, splinting) without unnecessary travel and discomfort.
